City council to hold hearing on street conversion
A street conversion would allow emergency vehicles better access to Mercy Hospital, according to the Janesville Fire Department.
Mercy officials are requesting a portion of North Franklin Street be changed to two-way between Highland Avenue and Mineral Point Avenue. The city required Mercy to perform a traffic study, which concluded the conversion to two-way would work. The project would cost an estimated $36,000, which includes intersection modifications, signage and roadway marking changes. The funds will be provided by TIF District 33, which surrounds Mercy Hospital's latest building addition.
A roundabout could also be added in the future.
The Janesville City Council is scheduled to take action on the proposal after holding a public hearing on the street conversion Monday night.

Maybe Mercy could fire up its demmolition squads again and tear down a few more blocks of homes to get faster access .They did it nearly 20 years ago for parking . I wonder in the future when Mercy is in competition with st mary`s if they will need to do this again to suit their needs .

Council,Why can you not leave well enough alone? Seem's to always be away to look for ways to spend money. The way streets are ,do they negatively impact emergency personnel,or is this a request from Mercy to beautify there area?
