Local Baseball in Spotlight

By Al Fagerli ( Contact )   July 1, 2009

A few years ago,Parker baseball coach Brian Martin and a few others wanted to come up with a way to honor former Parker assistant baseball coach and teacher Mike Grogan, who had passed away. Martin came up with the idea of a annual tournament, named after Grogan, that would feature the Janesville American Legion team and the East and West Janesville Junior Legion teams.
That tournament will be held again over the next few days at Veterans Field at Riverside Park. The Beloit Legion team is also participating. All proceeds will fund the Mike Grogan scholarship that is given each year to a senior baseball player from Parker and Craig high schools. Also this weekend, the annual Youth Baseball All-Star games will be held, featuring the Little League and Babe Ruth all-star tilts. All the games will be at the Jvl Youth Baseball Park. You can find out more information by going to the Youth Baseball website:www.janesvilleyouthbaseball.com. Have a safe and baseball-filled Fourth of July weekend.
