The King of Pop is dead

By Steve Benton ( Contact )   June 26, 2009

Another music icon is gone.

Although Michael Jackson was always on the edge of my music preferences, I've always enjoyed his music. He was hard to ignore during the peaks and valleys of his career. If you separate his music and talent from his, well.... personal issues, the world has lost something magical.

Just remember, his art will always be here.

Watch Michael Jackson perform Billy Jean at the Motown 25 show. When he was at the top of his game, he was incredible. That is enough to remember him for, for his talent and contributions to music. Forget the other crap, one has nothing to do with the other.

Hannah: Because you are a faithful WCLO listener and frequent commenter, let me please remind you to temper your comments.
That's quite an accusation there, and you don't say to whom it's directed. To me? To Steve?

No explanation is needed. Just please consider how your remarks may be taken before you hit "post".

With respect,

RIP Michael Jackson
The Greatest Singer/Dancer/Performer of all time... you will be missed

On another note, in response to "hannah": regardless of what you think about Michael Jackson, he was a human being... perhaps calling him a freak and wondering how much your Thriller album was worth less than 24 hours after the man dies was not the classiest thing in the world. The man obviously had enough teasing and criticism when he was alive, can't we let him at least rest in peace?

I was reading something this weekend that hit home -- Generation X finally realized that it's all grown up after 2 lunch box icons died on the same day. I still listen to MJ (mostly Off the Wall). My son sings Don't Stop till You Get Enough and instead of "Keep on where the poor stop" he substitutes it with "Keep on with the pork chop". It's all about the music and the memories. Thanks MJ.

I've been mourning my favorite 80's artist every since the first plastic surgery.

You are right, Steve. Regarding the music and performances, his talent was amazing.
